The school

A word from the director

Passionate about the world of education, I undertook studies in Educational Sciences and taught for several years in nursery and primary schools in France.

However, I very quickly had the feeling that the traditional system was not suitable for all children. This conviction was strengthened when I became a mother. I found that my own children were not enthusiastic about going to school. Too many constraints, too much homework, too much pressure for minds still developing.

I firmly believe that a positive and caring educational environment is essential to promote the development of children. This is particularly crucial during the early years, from 0 to 6 years old, when the brain is still under construction. Neuroscience teaches us that love, tenderness, attention, as well as learning autonomy and concentration are fundamental elements for optimal development. A happy child is capable of learning everything.

Our school, inspired by the work of Maria Montessori, offers a safe environment, where each child is encouraged to explore and learn at their own pace. We emphasize the joy of learning, the pleasure of going to school, the awakening of curiosity, self-confidence and the management of emotions, from a very young age.

You will find on this site a presentation of our educational project which places the child at the heart of learning, while focusing on their physical, emotional and social development.

We are proud to offer our young students a respectful and caring environment where everyone can fully flourish.

In conclusion, I will quote Maria Montessori: ; “ Teach me to do things alone and to think for myself.

Welcome to The Children’s House!

Agnès Palangian, founder and director of the children's home.

Philosophy

The Children's House offers an environment of development, learning and culture. Supervised by Montessori teaching, students develop their sense of responsibility, their autonomy and their pleasure in learning. They are active and involved in their own learning.
The school offers bilingual educational support (French-English) where students are
grouped together in a multi-age atmosphere (class) from 3 to 6 years old. During specific activities, we work in small groups (3/4 years, 4/5 years and 5/6 years).

The history of the school

The history of our school is one of passion and commitment to a caring and respectful education, centered on the development of each child.

Kindergarten:

It all started in January 2018, when the idea of creating an alternative school began to germinate. This idea was born from a discussion with a couple of parents wanting a different educational approach for their children.

In September 2018, the “Maison des Enfants” nursery school opened its doors in Rivière Noire with a single 3-year-old child, an educator and our director.

Barely three weeks after our opening, the NGO “Les Anges du Soleil” came to meet us to ask us if we were ready to welcome children from their organization. Which we did with joy by welcoming a new 3-year-old girl, because we put social diversity at the heart of our educational project. Our school blossomed little by little and in March 2020, we had fifteen children.

Despite the periods of confinement, due to the covid 19 pandemic, parents' confidence was maintained and our school was able to reopen in February 2022.

Crib :

In May 2020, a decisive meeting with Caroline Lemaire, Montessori educator, gave birth to the idea of a crèche. In September of the same year, it opened its doors in a new space located on avenue des Cordonniers in Tamarin, welcoming five babies, supervised by 2 educators.

Primary school :

Witnessing the development of their children, the parents expressed the wish to see the development of a primary school. A dad was the driving force behind this initiative, and in January 2024, we opened the doors to our new school, welcoming thirteen children. The ideal place was found, as were the two dedicated teachers.

Today, we welcome twenty children in primary school, twenty-five in nursery school and twenty-five in crèche. We are proud to see our school continue to grow and prosper.

And this is only the beginning of our long journey!
